Prescribing over the counter medicines

Your GP, nurse or pharmacist will not generally give you a prescription for over the counter medicines for a range of short-term, minor health concerns.

Instead, over the counter medicines are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket in your local community.

The team of qualified healthcare professionals at your local pharmacy can offer clinical advice to safely and effectively manage minor health concerns.

Please order more medication at least 3 days (72 hours) before you run out.

Requests for repeat prescriptions are handled by our dispensers.

All medication can be requested via one of the following methods:

  1. Send an email with your request to repeatprescriptions.okehampton@nhs.net
  2. Online using Patient Access. Before you can use Patient Access to order repeat prescriptions or deal with appointments, you need to register. Once you have registered and have received your unique patient registration details, you can login to Patient Access.
  3. Using our Automatic Ordering Service or Electronic Repeat Dispensing Service. You can sign up for this through our dispensary our your local pharmacy.
  4. By returning the right hand side of your green prescription.
  5. With the current COVID-19 situation our Dispensers will take your request over the telephone Monday to Friday between 2-5pm.

If you live more than a mile as the crow flies from a pharmacy, your prescription can be dispensed at the Medical Centre. You can check the distance to your local pharmacy by using the website: www.freemaptools.com.
