Minor Injuries Unit

There are no X-RAY facilities at Okehampton MIU

If you suspect a broken bone, you could attend the MIU at Launceston where they have X-ray facilities. Please confirm they are open before attending.

We run a Minor Injuries Unit from the surgery which is open Monday - Friday 8.15am - 6.00pm. For weekend minor injuries services please call NHS 111.

Minor Injuries can treat:

  • sprains and strains
  • minor burns and scalds
  • minor head injuries
  • insect and animal bites
  • minor eye injuries
  • any new injury within the last 3 days

If you are concerned you have an infection, please call one of our Patient Service Advisors on 01837 52233, option 3, who will add you to the triage list.

Long-Term Condition Clinics

Patients who have any of the following long-term conditions are invited to attend regular reviews (annually). These reviews consist of a physical assessment which is with one of our Health Care Assistants who will take your blood pressure, pulse, a blood test and foot check (if diabetic). They will also discuss with you your general health. Depending on the results of this initial consultation, you may then be invited for a follow up appointment with one of our long-term condition nurses.

Cervical Screening

These should be performed at regular intervals. Every 3 years for 25-49 year olds and every 5 years for 50-64 year olds.

You will be sent a letter inviting you for your smear test when it is due. If you think you are overdue or haven't received an invite, then you can always contact the surgery on 01837 52233.

For more information visit NHS Cervical Screening.

Child Health Checks

When baby is 6 weeks of age they should have a 6 week check which is carried out by a GP, this is normally combined with the mothers 6 week postnatal check. From then on the health visitor will carry on doing regular checks up until the child is 5 years of age. You will need to contact the surgery to make this appointment.

We recommend all babies/children are up to date with their vaccinations. The vaccination schedule starts at 8 weeks for baby and you will receive an invitation to those and any further vaccinations that you child requires, you will need to make an appointment with the surgery for these.
