Appointments
The Doctors run personal lists which means patients
are encouraged to make appointments with the doctor with whom they are
registered. Please make an appointment in advance by telephoning 01837
52233. You will be offered the first available appointment with your own
doctor. If there is no vacant appointment with your own doctor that day
and you need an urgent appointment, you can be seen that
day by the emergency doctor - this may be one of the Partners or Associate
Doctor.
If you feel you are unable to keep your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible.
Home
Visits
Home visits are for those who are housebound or too ill to get out. It
is, for example, rare for a child to need a home visit. It is much easier
to carry
out investigations and treatment at the Medical Centre and generally you will
be seen more quickly than if you wait for a visit. Our doctors and nurses are
always happy to speak on the telephone to advise what help is most appropriate.
If you feel you need a visit, please telephone before 11.00am if
at all possible and give the doctor's secretary some idea of the nature
of the problem.
Out
of Hours Emergencies
If you require a doctor in an emergency after surgery hours, please telephone
the Medical Centre on 01837 52233 and you will hear a recorded message giving
you details of the telephone numbers to dial. The numbers given are for:
NHS Direct 0845 4647 and Devon Doctors 0845 6710270.
Please do not call before 8.30am or after 6.00pm unless it is an EMERGENCY. As the Practice is part of a Co-op covering out-of-hours emergencies, the duty doctor may be a GP from another local practice rather than from this surgery.
Telephone
Advice
There may be times when you feel that you just need telephone advice from
your doctor. Please telephone the surgery and your doctor's secretary
can arrange this for you. If you have any queries about test results, or
other
administrative matters, please telephone between 8.30am - 11.30am and 12.30pm
- 6.00pm. The secretary will advise you, consulting your doctor as necessary.
Out
of Hours Telephone Advice
Nurses are available to give advice out of hours via NHS direct on 0845
4647. If, however, you feel you need a doctor's advice, contact the out-of-hours
emergency number
as detailed above and an on-call doctor will telephone you back.
Test
Results
You may ring the surgery and speak to your doctor's secretary for
the results of tests but please remember that results will only be given
to the
specific patient for whom they apply. Please do not telephone for the results
of friends or relatives without prior arrangement.
If you have had several tests, the secretary will not necessarily know if all the results are back unless you can identify them. Some tests take longer to process. Please do not expect the secretary to have any medical knowledge. If you want any further information about the test, please refer to your doctor.
Temporary Residents
If a visitor to
your home needs to see a doctor, you may make arrangements for them to be seen
at the practice on a temporary basis for a maximum of 3 months. Anyone staying
longer than this should register with a doctor.
Change
of Personal Details
Please
inform reception staff as soon as possible if you change your name, address,
or telephone number. We are only able to provide services for people who live
inside the practice boundary. If you move outside
the boundary you should register with a new doctor as soon as possible.
